My Hero Academia : 2 Heroes

When I first caught this visual extravaganza, I was fortunate enough to view it in the cinema and I must say, lads and lasses, the bigger the screen you can grab, the better! The cinematic fix of Deku, All-Might and our stellar collection of favourites will act less like a caffeine pill and more like a shot of adrenaline direct to your heart! But seeing as what many people will have to enjoy is the Blu-Ray format, what I will posit if you are interested in seeing this film is to get your crew of Heroaka fans together and geek out with the energy of it being a rave! And, I will add, bring someone who needs to feel that magic; of what it means to be a hero.

my_hero_academia_-_two_heroes_poster
All that cheese nicely sliced, let’s put that aside for a second and get into the plot, if you happen to live under a rock, or come from regular television land, which I put in the same boat anyway. Our Young Izuku Midoriya after going through the trials for his Hero Licence and learning of exactly where his path will take him, oh yeah he gets invited to a gigantic Expo by All-Might himself, an expo which is hosted by the #1 Hero’s best lifelong friend, a savant of a scientist David Shield, whose FIIINE and brilliant daughter Melissa also happens to be attending, hell she’s the one who greets the twosome when they
arrive. The whole event comes under threat, however, when a mercenary outfit holds the entirety of the attendees hostage, but luckily enough Deku, Melissa and some fellow students of UA Academy who are at the event too for different reasons avoid capture, and so it falls to them to restore order, and save one of the titular pairs, of Two Heroes of the former generation.my_hero_academia_the_movie_key_visual

And well, I wish I could just unload all the spoilers for you here, but instead I wish to bring attention to the importance of this title, and its underlying concept. Two. Heroes. You may not think much of the idea, and some of you may even know its significance already, but I want to stress the importance of this theme, this Positive Duality, that’s throughout the film. And this is why I also said to bring someone to your featuring of the film who needs to feel that magic, because I think a lot of people take for granted the importance of this theme.
You might be somewhat of a lonely individual, or you might be popular all around, or somewhere inbetween socially, for, dear listeners, I do not know your circumstances, though I hope they’re positive. Still, for everyone, there is at least one great bond in their life. Someone who understands them, backs
them up, and goes alongside them on the path of life, sometimes knocking into them and sometimes encouragingly elbowing them in the ribs to make sure that the direction they go is a good one. This can come in the form of a friend, or family; someone whose got an investment in your welfare, and progress
through life. And when you’re conscious of that bond, each of you shines like beacons to the other,
because life is a little bit more lit up with having them there for you. What was before an uncertain,
hostile or indifferent world is then illuminated, and whatever is ahead, you can face it together.
Now if that sounds like romantic love to you, I must clarify, what that is and what I’m talking about is
pretty similar in description, but cease your gay shit for I’m the one talking here, and the Rotten Girls who
like to imply some sort of shipping between Deku and All-Might have likely already been at this whole
match-up… Well. Stop. Just stop. Get help. That’s statutory. All you shippers give me the shivers over
shit like this, and as a proud soldier in the Waifu War I must say your lifestyle, rather than your art style,
disgusts me! To quote Swan from The Warriors, I don’t like the way you live!
But that’s neither here nor there. Live and let live, like.
The film – yes, that’s what we were talking about – it has a fair shake at giving us a look at the sheer scale
this franchise will eventually have, in terms of the Quirks of the characters, and in terms of just how big
an impact it will continue to have for the medium of Anime and weebish or geeky entertainment in
general. The thing is, guys, is that I think a lot of people are going to be looking for that gratification of a
great story, more and more of the folks all across the world. And for an anime film based off of a
mainstream title, it ticks all the boxes for getting you invested. Its got fights, its got relationships, its got
commentaries upon the broader idea of friends and just what goes into being one for those people in your
life. And its got some Waifus, and Husbandos, the most important factor of all! The ending is a bit of a
stretch, but you don’t pull a muscle watching it, trust me.
Ultimately, however, what I got out of this film, is that example of someone whose trying to do their

best to say yes to life, even if they’re not given by fate the advantages or qualities of others that makes all
of those other people special or more functional in the world they live in. Hell of a thing to draw from
some animation now, but I hope those of you who can appreciate the good in this life know why I took
that impression from this story, and even figure out who I’m talking about in particular!
Its worth the watch, and the film night. So tell your friends, lord it over your enemies who are disturbed
by interests that they don’t understand, and convert your younger siblings who are open to this kind of
message! And keep your little devil smiling!

Character Dive : Vegeta The Warrior who passed expectations

vegeta-1

To help build up hype for the DragonBall Super Broly. I thought it be best to discuss one of the best characters in the franchise . Vegeta born on planet Vegeta from a royal family. He was raised to learn the values of being a strong Saiyan warrior. His father  King Vegeta taught him to always follow and respect beings more powerful than them( Beerus and Frieza ) Soon he became the leader of Frieza’s Force . After his defeat by Goku and Co. He learns to control his pride and work with others (unregretfully) . During the course of the show he begins to show respect to his teammates and compassion towards people he cares about.

vegeta,trunks,_bulma_and_bra

His greatest downfall being is his pride. During the events of the Cell Saga he misses his chances to defeat cell because of only wanting a challenge. This is only one of weaknesses which in terms of power he always become short compared to Goku.

vegeta-6

But in terms of character development what started off as antagonist he becomes something more than any of the characters have become He has become a warrior , father figure and loyal husband who risks his life to break the barriers within himself . Getting more powerful particularly in the Cell Saga and Tournament . When I was younger I always looked up to Vegeta’s rage resonated with myself and dealing with the frustration of not being able to connect with people . Through him I learned that sometimes you just need to carve your own path in life or else succumb to being only 2nd best.

Remember to Check out Dragonball Super Broly in theatres 23rd of January .

Initial thoughts of 2019 anime

We did a recording on our initial thoughts of this current anime season but it would also be best to have a written account .

Shield Hero – A excellent hook for a first episode while having some problems in its exposition it takes 13 minutes to get into the full premise in its premiere episode. A boy gets transported into another world with no knowledge of gaming only to be put in the worst class and set up for a crime he did not commit. Will he succumb to the evils of the new world and the image the society has made for him or will he prove them all wrong?

2dca34efed_md

Boogiepop and others – A welcome classic makes its return with horror suspense and action . When teenagers start disappearing all due to a connection to a unknown drug the entity known as Boogiepop phantom must make a possession of a body to help defend the world against evil.

boogiepop

Yakusoku no Neverland – A strong new contender in horror. A group of orphan kids are held in a orphanage with numbers tattooed on them awhile going through experimentation. The unfit children for testing are taken off or “adopted” will the main character Emma survive in a place not quite what it seems . Using strong themes and comparisons to the Holocaust and camps this is a the new hype of the season.

Did someone say Goblins ? – Goblin Slayer review

Goblin Slayer is a dark fantasy series written
Kumo Kagyu and produced by White Fox who have in the past made Stein’s Gate and Super Sonico . It tells a story of Priestess who upon her first mission her entire team get slaughtered and raped by a goblins, survives the help of a mysterious and deadly guild member known as Goblin Slayer who entire mission and goal in life is destroy all the goblins.

Now for the controversial part of the scene . It is kind of perplexing there was such a big uproar over it . Anime has many more gruesome scenes and as reviewers it is our job to review the best and worst it has to offer. As anibloggers and youtubers we have 2 important missions to discuss anime and help discussion in others . And secondly to be advocates for the anime community . And causing so much uproar is not helping people.

For the series it follows a similar dynamic of a classic dungeon and dragons campaign so the feel of the series is quick and high paced using a mixture of sharp designs and soft characters depending on their class and role of the person in the anime.

Now the show has some flaws being that it is based on the dungeons and dragons campaign which is names . Goblin Slayer , priestess , sword maiden , cow girl- what were the names before they chose these roles . While it makes it easy to remember the names it can be really annoying hearing the names come up in conversation.

The overall theme of the show is sometimes you can’t do things on your own was a great message to have in a fantasy setting bringing up memories of when your campaign splits into groups often to be put in danger.

Would I recommend it yes but only if your a fan of fantasy because it can be full of tropes in the fantasy genre that may bore you after awhile.

Is there room for politics in Anime Fandom?

I’ve been involved in conventions since 2013 and been a fan of anime since the early 90s. I’ve always seen anime fandom as this fun odd mixture of every sort of political , economic and sexual background all gathering together to escape from the hecticness and dread of reality for one weekend.3582lc3

2018 times have changed however as politics has overcome every topic we come to discuss. Even professionals in the industry will not stop speaking about politics .

Whether Right or Left wing or identity politics its anime fandom has becoming less of a community but as site of tribal wars of people picking sides.

But does it really belong in the convention scene? My answer is not really . We take in too much hostility now every day. In America and England there is a growing rise of hate groups . One of the main reasons of this growing isolation we are feeling in the modern world. Things may be changing way to quickly for some of us adapt too.

I know the media and social media can color people’s perception on things. Conservatives are nazis , Liberals are ruining the world, We hear these comments all time even from creators of our favourite creators . Sadly this is just a result of living in a hyper informative , high emotional state in time . Not all republicans or right wing people are evil not all liberals are ruining the world. All of us are just trying to get by one day at a time . So in this ultra political time My advice for people is to sit down and enjoy a drink with your from the other political spectrum and try to understand why they think the way do. Then together we can solve the greatest problem of conquering hate while discussing why your waifu is trash

Way of the Yakuza – Back Street Girls Gokudolls

When three yakuza fail their boss way too many times they are offered a choice. Commit honorable Suicide or go to Thailand and get Gender Reassignment surgery to become the latest idol group to hit Japan. They become a overnight success unfortunately some habit are hard to beat because deep down they are still yakuza and men. back_street_girls_01_02

Taking Crime life and comparing it to the idol lifestyle was something I never really thought before until this show premiere.

gokudolls

But after the first episode of over the top humor and reactions made me question how come i never thought of this similar. Between the gruelling training and restrictions put on most women who pursue this career it’s so easy to see how much similar the crime lifestyle.

Animation is similar to Cromartie High School parodying the old shonen style animation of the 70s and 80s.

If you like Politically Incorrect over the top humor this is meant for you.

If you like Cromartie High , AK0048, Love live anime then give it a shot on Netflix soon.

Worldcon or Ireland2019 Is it Worth it?

It’s the day after Dublin Comic Con and while I really enjoyed . It also gave me time to consider a personal question. What happens when Politics and Conventions combine?

For the past 2 years I have been hyping for Worldcon through my podcast because I believed this was a way for the convention scene in Ireland to make a legitimate name for itself as pop cultural hub. I spent a good while thinking about meeting the likes of Mur Lafferty and winners of the Hugo awards in my head. cov-centre-475x440

Unfortunately due to constantly changing times of the current climate . Conventions have been becoming more and more political . Attacks on youtubers at Gencon this year marked a sign of the times . World Con themselves have also become more political as American tensions have put pressure on committees to include more Progressive policies. shamrokongroup-638x477

This is where the dilemma comes in Dublin 2019 for panelists asks in when applying for press and panelists for a long list of details from sexual orientation , gender etc which I was quite skeptical about. And recently they have announced a code of conduct which includes rules against using terms like sjws , against microaggressions which confused me and annoyed me on a personal level.

But after speaking with people on both sides of the political spectrum I came at a crossroads. Should I promote or condone this level of rules enforcement in the Irish community?

The answer I came to was let my fans make their own choice by allowing them to decide by showing the pros and cons of this event and maybe offer some alternatives and some advice for the committee of Ireland 2018

Pros

This will bring in much needed convention tourism for Ireland as people from all over the world .

Allows us to set a precedent as the first time Ireland will host a event of this size and history.

More events in this country the better as the conventions in Ireland have closed down over the years

Will make up for the disgraceful performance of Gamercon aka Scamcon

Guests for Ireland 2019 will include Bill and Mary Burns founders of eFanzines.com

Diane Duane –  writer The Door Into Fire , Games Wizards Play and countless Star trek novels

Steve Jackson – game creator

Cons-

Price Gauge – Ticket prices go from 110- 120 euro a ticket for this event as a membership system on top of dublin Hotel prices will possibly drain your account and prevent you from attending other conventions in Ireland and Europe for a while

Selection of Guests – Anime and pop culture has always has been a part of the Science Fiction Scene even from the early days showing bootleg copies of Astroboy but there doesn’t seem to be many guests that would interest us anime fans . From Legend of the Galactic Hero to Darling in the Franxx anime and its fandom has shown we love sci fi as much as any old school fan of the genre.

Rules – Irish Culture and Geek Culture is a unusual beast . The typical saying is our closest friends we insult and most hated enemies we compliment which would break most of the rules at this event.

The standing rule about not using the term SJW is kind of a odd thing . Irish conventions usually involve the pub where we gather around  afterwards debate everything from movies , anime , and politics.

History of the Con- The convention has various dealings with voter blocks of Conservative writers nominating silly titles into their awards. Bringing that kind of bitterness into the country can spell a dangerous situation especially when so many hate groups are located just in the UK that amount of publicity will put Ireland in their crosshairs.

So it’s up to you my audience if this convention is up your alley then go for it .

Alternatively there is Jcon, Dublin Comic Con , Tokonatsu over in the uk,

My advice to the Worldcon committee and other cons is introducing a over intrusive liberal policies would create a greater force against it . But by having standard agreement of rules in place ie , No bullying that conventions have been applying for years would prevent less resistance as everyone knows we need these rules in place.

The convention world is wide and vast so it’s up to the people what makes a good convention for them.
